Guidelines for Organising Events
General AdviceWe very much hope that before too long you will organise an event. The monthly bulletin is a window of the club, and it is more likely to tempt fresh faces if it displays a good mix of activities. The Committee is always pleased to hear from a member who is prepared to organise a visit to a restaurant, a theatre, a ramble or just a pub evening. Equally welcome are events of a more unusual nature, for instance, a visit to the Pendon model railway museum, or to Bletchley Park, or even Championship Croquet! Attendance at events is variable. However, do not be discouraged if your first one is not so well supported, and it is best to pick something you would go to anyway. Try promoting it at other events, especially at Club Nights, and this could raise the profile of your forthcoming event. If you need to book tickets in advance, it is a good idea to get people to commit ahead of time by placing an advance notice in the Bulletin. Personal, but gentle arm-twisting also works wonders. To place an event in the bulletin, simply e-mail the bulletin editor with your copy, no later than the Bulletin deadline, but preferably as early as possible. Even if you have not finalised details it will help the editor if you register your intentions at an early date to avoid possible clashing of events. In some circumstances the committee may agree to underwrite the event. Finally, any member of the Committee will be only too glad to assist if you need help and advice. IncentivesWe hope that you will enjoy organising events and find doing so rewarding in itself, however we also have two financial incentives to encourage members to organise events:
